Professor Gordon RustinProfessor Gordon Rustin
Professor Rustin qualified from the Middlesex Hospital, London in 1971. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Medical Oncology at the Charing Cross Hospital & part-time at Mount Vernon Hospital in 1984, but moved full-time to Mount Vernon Hospital to become Director of Medical Oncology in 1995. He has published widely on management of gynaecological cancers & germ cell tumours & the use of tumour markers.

Special Interests are breast and colorectal cancer

Dr Paul Nathan
Dr Paul Nathan

Paul Nathan has a specialist interest in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) and melanoma (a form of skin cancer). His research interests centre on the use of new therapies to block the stimulation of cancer cells by growth factors and approaches to target blood vessels, which feed tumour growth.

Jeanette Dickson is a clinical oncology consultant a specialist interest in the management of lung and urological malignancies. She also has considerable interest in the field of postgraduate medical education.

Professor Jane MaherProfessor Jane Maher
Professor Maher is Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Senior Clinical Lecturer in Oncology at University College & Professor of Cancer & Supportive Care at Hertfordshire University.  She is Co-Founder of Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre and leads a research team with a particular interest in supportive oncology.  As Chief Medical Officer of Macmillan Cancer Relief, she has developed a medical programme supporting over 300 physicians covering a range of specialities from primary to secondary care.

Humaira JamalDr Humaira Jamal
Dr Humaira Jamal is Consultant in Palliative Medicine for the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre & Michael Sobell House. Her team provides physical, emotional, social & spiritual care for patients with advanced cancer.  She is currently involved in collaborative research with the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre exploring care needs of cancer patients.  Research interests include management of medical conditions in patients with advanced cancer, Palliative Day Care & Rehabilitation.

Andreas Makris Dr Andreas Makris
Appointed Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Clinical Oncology at Mount Vernon Hospital, London in 1997. He is the Lead Clinician for Breast Cancer and also the Clinical Lead for Research for the Mount Vernon Network. He specialises in the treatment of breast cancer. His research interests are: Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy, Prognostic/predictive markers, Functional Imaging, Endocrine therapy and Angiogenesis.

Robert Glynne-Jones Dr Robert Glynne-Jones
Dr Glynne-Jones is the Macmillan Lead Clinician in Gastrointestinal & Colorectal Cancer at Mount Vernon. He is also medical director of the UK charity Bowel Cancer UK. Current areas of research include how to integrate new drugs into chemoradiation regimens in anal & rectal cancer. He also campaigns for the introduction of a National Consensus Meeting in Colorectal Cancer, to speed up the NICE process & facilitate the timely availability of new drugs within an evidence-based framework. He also would like to put folate supplements in bread in the UK.

Alan Makepeace Dr Alan Makepeace
Having taken a 1st in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College, Dr Makepeace worked briefly in the City before commencing his undergraduate medical education.  Having qualified at Kings College, London, he went on to obtain the FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1981 and FRCS (England) the same year.  He entered oncology in 1982 obtaining the FRCR in 1985 and was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in Clinical Oncology.  Dr Makepeace has been Director of Continuing Professional Development, Member of the Education Board and of the Training and Accrediation Committee of the Royal College of Radiologists; during this period he was also a committe member of the Academy of Royal Colleges.  Dr Makepeace is currently a member of the Accreditation Committee and a member of the Appraisal Approvals Panel of the Postgradute Medical and Education Training Board.  He is also a expert reviewer in Oncology for the Healthcare Commission. Dr Makepeace's clinical interest are centred on the management of breast and colorectal cancer.

David Miles Dr David Miles
David Miles trained at University College London with postgraduate training at Kings College, University College and Guys Hospital.  Following an ICRF Fellowship in the Guys Breast Unit leading to an M.D., he was appointed senior lecturer/consultant to the Guys Breast Unit in 1995.  In 2004 he was appointed as Consultant in Medical Oncology at Mount Vernon Hospital.  His research interests are in the biological treatment of breast cancer and he is National and International Principal Investigator in studies of novel agents in breast cancer.

Ethan Lyn Dr Ethan Lyn
Dr Ethan Lyn graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1982 and was appointed Consultant in Clinical Oncology at Mount Vernon Hospital in 1996. His specialist fields are lung cancer and lymphoma and he attends outreach clinics at Hertford County Hospital, Hertford, and the Lister Hospital, Stevenage. Other interests include technical radiotherapy, implementation of new technology in to clinical practice, and quality assurance of radiotherapy in clinical trials. He is a member of several Clinical Trial Management Groups and is Deputy Lead of the Lung Cancer Site Orientated Electronic Network of the Royal College of Radiologists

Kate Goodchild Dr Kate Goodchild
Dr Kate Goodchild was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in 2000. Dr Goodchild works closely with colleagues at both Luton and Northwick Park Hospital. Her field of interest includes the management of head and neck, thyroid and upper gastrointestinal cancers. The integration of biological therapies into the delivery of concurrent chemoradiation and the development of different methods of delivering radical radiotherapy eg Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy are Dr Goodchild’s main research interests.

Kirit Ardeshna Dr Kirit Ardeshna
Dr Kirit Ardeshna qualified from Cambridge University in 1990. He was appointed as Consultant Haemato-oncologist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and University College London Hospitals in 2002. He has a specialist interest in the treatment of patients with lymphoma and is actively involved in developing and running clinical trials in patients with lymphoma. He is also a member of the National Cancer Research Institute Lymphoma Clinical Studies subgroup and well as being the chair of the North London Cancer Network Lymphoma Board.

Marcia Hall Dr Marcia Hall
Dr Marcia Hall was appointed as a consultant in medical oncology at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in 1999.  She looks after patients with upper and lower GI cancers and gynaecological malignancies at Wexham Park Hospital in East Berkshire.  Her main research interests are within the field of gynaecological (especially ovarian) cancers.  Her main aim within oncology is to offer patients a full option of appropriate clinical trials alongside standard treatment for patients at every stage of their cancer journey ...

Mark Harrison Dr Mark Harrison
Trained at the Royal Free Hospital. Post qualification training in Cambridge, Hammersmith, St Marys, Middlesex and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. ICRF research fellow at Clare Hall Laboratories with PhD in Cell Biology.Specialises in treatment of Upper and Lower GI cancers. Research interests include clinical aspects of DNA repair modification, chemoradiation of oesophageal and rectal cancer, and integration of new agents into Upper GI treatment schedules. He is currently regional advisor of The Royal College of Radiologists as well as a member of the NCRN Rectal, advanced colorectal and chemoradiation sub-groups.

Mei-Lin Ah-See Dr Mei-Lin Ah-See
Dr. Mei-Lin Ah-See is a Consultant in Clinical Oncology specialising in Breast Cancer at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre with sessions at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. She qualified in 1993 from Cambridge University and was awarded her MD from the University of London in 2006. She was appointed to her Consultant position in January 2007. She is lead clinician for Breast Cancer Radiotherapy for the Mount Vernon Cancer Network

Nichola Anyamene Dr Nichola Anyamene
Having been a Senior Registrar since 2004 at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Dr Anyamene was appointed as Consultant Clinical Oncologist in June 2007 covering Mount Vernon and Northwick Park Hospitals. Areas of clinical interest include upper and lower GI and genitourinary malignancies (prostate and bladder). Actively involved in recruiting patients into clinical trials.Dr Anyamene has an interest in post graduate medical education and is currently an educational supervisor for junior staff

Nihal Shah Dr Nihal Shah
Dr Nihal Shah has a specialist interest in the treatment of patients with Breast, Head and Neck Cancers. He has supported lung cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy trials and continues to support current breast, head and neck cancer clinical trials.

Paul Mulholland Paul Mulholland
Paul Mulholland is a medical oncologist with a specialist interest in the treatment of brain cancer. He qualified from Royal Free Hospital in 1992 and obtained his PhD in 2005 studying brain tumour genetics at Cancer Research UK London Research Institute. He sees patients with primary and secondary brain cancers as part of a multi-disciplinary team at Mount Vernon Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Paul is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute Brain tumour Group. His research interests are in brain cancer and focus on drug treatments which cut-off the blood supply to cancer and in understanding how best to use new agents which block growth factor signalling.

Peter Ostler Dr Peter Ostler
Dr Peter Ostler is Clinical Director for the Cancer Centre.  He has a special interest in prostate cancer (including prostate brachytherapy and cryotherapy), breast cancer, sarcoma and lung cancer.  He has sessions at Barnet Hosptial.

Rob Hughes Rob Hughes
Dr Rob Hughes qualified from University College London 1996 and was appointed as a consultant in clinical oncology at Mount Vernon hospital in 2005. He works between the Lister hospital in north east Hertfordshire and Mount Vernon. His special areas of interest are the management of urological, in particular prostate and bladder cancers and in gastrointestinal cancers in particular the treatment gastrointestinal cancers with chemo radiotherapy.

Suzy Mawdsley Dr Suzy Mawdsley
Dr Suzy Mawdsley qualified from Manchester University (First class Honours) in 1994. She was appointed as a consultant at Mount Vernon and Luton and Dunstable Hospitals in 1995. Her research interests are prognostic and predictive molecular markers and chemoradiation in anorectal cancers. Her special interests are colorectal and lung cancer.
